Inspired by the natural beauty of the earth and the elegance of classical design, this collection represents a thoughtful synthesis of the two. The Terracotta Pendant light by Courtney Applebaum brings together three elemental materials — terracotta, or “baked earth,” glass, and plant fibers — to create timeless, enduring forms. The terracotta lighting pieces are crafted using the ancient technique of slip casting, where liquid clay is poured into moulds to define their shape before being fired to an earthenware finish. Deliberately left unglazed, the raw surface of the terracotta highlights its organic character, with only a light sanding applied to achieve a soft, tactile quality.
Los Angeles-based Interior Designer Courtney Applebaum was initially drawn to architecture and interior design as she saw these worlds as arenas for self-expression and beauty. Established in 2011, her studio is dedicated to creating spaces that brim with purpose and individuality through a mix of design periods, furniture styles and unexpected materials. Curated eclecticism that naturally evokes a minimalist mood is the hallmark of each project.
