Making Out by Marion Stora

Stories Editor's Pick Making Out by Marion Stora

Invisible Collection Paris celebrates Design Week with a new series of pieces by Marion Stora. From dream-like beds to exquisitely crafted tables, the exhibition—cheekily titled Making Out—is a love letter to soulful design and superior craftsmanship.

After the successful launch of her first furniture collection, we are delighted to present the next chapter of our exclusive collaboration with Marion Stora. The new designs are on display at our Paris Gallery on the Rive Gauche. Crafted by the finest artisans, cabinet makers, and artists, these one-of-a-kind pieces will be available exclusively through Invisible Collection. Marion Stora needs no introduction. Since the launch of her eponymous studio in 2011, she has left her signature on some remarkable properties, including Victorian homes in London, contemporary villas in Portugal, an art collector’s home in Northern Europe, and, most notably, her own Parisian apartment overlooking the Eiffel Tower. That’s her playground, where she experiments with shapes and textures, creating soulful, elegant décors that reflect her unmistakable style. Making Out is yet another display of Marion’s vocabulary, where rigor and restraint are counterbalanced by warmth and liveliness. The accents of modernism and clean lines blur into subtle undulations. Passionate about natural materials—from woven fabrics to various species of wood—she works with the best artisans, specifically fine cabinetmakers and artists. These exceptional collaborations are epitomized by the designs on show at Invisible Collection Paris.
The exhibition has a somewhat counterintuitive plan as it opens with a bedroom that leads to a dining room before entering the living area. This home ‘in reverse’ has its own logic, though, with Marion wanting to draw our attention to a spectacular bed resulting from the collaboration of many renowned artisans.

Simply called Le Baiser—which means ‘kiss’ in French—it comprises a bespoke bed and headboard. The oak structure integrates brushed brass side tables, while the headboard is embellished with a central panel featuring an embroidered motif of two people kissing. The embroidery was handmade in the renowned atelier of Lesage Intérieur, the specialty creator housed at Chanel’s le19M. The bedding is also tailor-made by Le Lit National.
Among the highlights, two creations stand out. First, a striking folding screen at the intersection of functionality and art. Simply called Ornement, it conjures the aesthetic of traditional African artifacts, reinterpreted with contemporary techniques by French artisans. The frame, crafted in patinated brass, unfolds into five panels, each featuring cascading strings of handcrafted oval pieces made of enameled copper by a well-known master ceramist. Then, we are drawn to an exquisitely crafted valet stand, a reminder of how, over time, some objects might have lost their functional purpose and become obsolete.

Yet, their intrinsic beauty and nostalgic aura remain irresistible. The Costantin Valet by Marion Stora illustrates this idea: an elegant, timeless design that elevates the décor, serving as a standalone, sculptural addition even in the most contemporary, minimalist home.
The new collection includes a series of tables and desks defined by startling proportions and an interplay of textures. The fine, organic tops in natural wood are supported by sturdy, extra-large legs sporting a sophisticated enamel finish. Entirely made by hand, these pieces reveal Marion Stora’s knack for pairing contrasting materials in a new, utterly confident manner. The same confidence is displayed in the whimsical Soulful Armchair, defined by hand-gouged wooden armrests that extend into sculpted animal feet, or in the Tatou Footstool, with its fascinating shape evoking a precious stone supported by prong-like feet made of gouged wood. Form follows function, and yet, there is more than meets the eye.

Marion Stora’s designs are on view at Invisible Collection Paris and are available exclusively through us. Book a visit to our gallery to experience them in person, and discover the full collection online.

Marion Stora

Marion Stora has loved sailing ever since she was a small child. Her other passion is art. She began studying architecture but quickly realized that interior architecture captivated her most. Defined by rigor and precision, yet warm, colorful, and lively in atmosphere, Marion’s distinctive style is immediately recognizable. Her taste for natural materials – hand-woven fabrics, raw hides, and wood – and her soft, harmonious lines channel a kindred affinity with Modernism.
