Laclaux
Magnolias are among the oldest flowering plants, their thick, waxy petals evolving long before bees existed to visit them. In Laclaux’s Magnolia Sconce, that weight finds a natural expression in clay. Each of the three blossoms is composed of separately formed petals, cupped and overlapped, then brushed with rose from the base outward, the colour fading toward the tips as it does on a saucer magnolia. A high-gloss glaze lends the petals the faintly dewy sheen of the living flower. Smaller white blossoms along the stem introduce a variation in scale, while the foliage is painted in marbled greens shot through with olive. Above, two frosted corollas in pale rose soften the light to a blush. Against a deep plum or ochre wall, the pink comes into its own, making the sconce a natural choice for a bedroom, dressing room or intimate sitting room.
