Maison Leleu

Founded in 1910 by Jules Leleu, Maison Leleu has been the reference point for French interior decoration throughout the twentieth century. One of the most sought after ensembliers of his time, Jules Leleu seamlessly merged new styles and materials fully embracing Art Deco’s innovations. The designer and furniture maker created an array of collections encompassing all furnishings, including rugs and lights, beautifully executed by highly skilled craftsmen.  With the help of his sons, Jules successfully incorporated the 40s modernism into his design process without ever sacrificing the superior quality of his work. Jules passed away in 1961, leaving his company in the capable hands of his progeny. The brand is now run by the fourth generation of Leleus, with great-granddaughter Alexia unearthing some emblematic pieces from the company’s archives and reviving them with a contemporary touch.

Signature Style

Clean lines, geometric shapes and luxurious materials are the hallmark of Leleu’s designs. The brand’s unmistakable aesthetic merges distinctive styles – from Art Deco to modernism – whilst subtracting most flourishes. Each piece is made by skilled artisans with laser-like attention to detail. The materials encompass all that is rare and precious from exotic woods to gilded metals and high-quality textiles. Rugs too, are an essential element of Leleu’s original work available in limited editions.

Showstoppers

Some signature designs from the brand’s archives are the inspiration for the new collection created by Alexia Leleu. The highlights include a lovely méridienne, French for fainting couch, originally designed for the passenger liner “Le Normandie”, transformed into a very contemporary iteration; and the Florina armchair, an elegant version of the Flore sofa from the 40s. The collection includes an array of bespoke rugs and the stunning Peneloppa chandelier.
