Carlo Hauner’s Costela armchair, created in the 1950s in collaboration with architect renowned Martin Eisler, embodies the fearlessness of Brazilian design. Inspired by the skeletal structure of human ribs, this revolutionary armchair blends elegance and comfort, rapidly becoming an icon of Brazilian modernism. The Costela chair thus represents a pivotal moment in the history of design, marking a successful fusion between contemporary aesthetics and natural infuences, while offering exceptional comfort.Â
Carlo Hauner (1927-1996) was a renowned Italian designer who moved to Brazil in 1948 and is best known for his role in the Brazilian modernist design movement. Co-founder of Mobilia in São Paulo, he left his mark on the design world with his elegant, functional creations, fusing European influences with Brazilian materials and traditions. He also explored various artistic techniques such as painting, leaving behind him a lasting legacy in the field of design and art.Â
These pieces are part of a collection of twentieth-century designs sourced and impeccably restored and upholstered by Jouffre.
