Atelier Février was born from the shared passion of French designer Florian Pretet and Nepali entrepreneur Lisa Mukhia Pretet, partners in life as in craft. Florian, who once designed cashmere and silk for the workshops of Hermès, draws every pattern by hand before it is scaled up and hand-knotted in Nepal by a workforce of more than fifty artisans, using techniques passed down through generations and no machines or chemicals whatsoever.
The Paysage I Rug Natural White joins Atelier Février’s rug library, presented here in a natural white colourway. Created in collaboration with François Mascarello of Mascarello Studio, Paysage I is a faithful interpretation of one of his oil paintings, translated into a rug through a careful composition of weaving techniques. Hand-knotted in Nepal from 80% Himalayan wool and 15% silk and 5% hemp, at 100 knots per square inch (155,000 knots per square metre), the wool and hemp grounding the pile while the silk lends a subtle sheen to the pattern’s finer lines. Florian Pretet’s drawings never leave the page unchanged: scaled up and hand-knotted by artisans in Nepal, the Paysage I Rug Natural White can be customised in size, shape and colourway, so no two commissions ever look quite the same.
