Founded by Karl Fournier and Olivier Marty in Marrakech and Paris, Studio KO has built private houses, museums, and hotels defined by clean lines, natural materials, and an acute sensitivity to light. Their first collaboration with Galerie Diurne, the Echo collection, translates that same architectural discipline into a series of hand-knotted rugs, each one drawing on the great figures of twentieth-century minimalist and conceptual art.
The Sol Rug, designed by Studio KO for Galerie Diurne as part of the Echo collection, channels the spirit of the conceptual artist whose systematic, geometric structures reduced art to its purest instructions and forms. Karl Fournier and Olivier Marty distil that same rigour into a floor piece where soft, blended graphics evoke both an abstract landscape and a quiet optical pulse, embodying the collection’s overall pursuit of strength through restraint.
Woven with 80% wool and 20% silk and hand-knotted using 200,000 Tibetan knots, the Sol Rug is crafted by artisans skilled in ancestral techniques of knotting, weaving, and tufting. As with every rug in the Echo collection, its handmade nature means slight variations in size and colour occur, and the pattern adjusts proportionally when the rug is produced in bespoke dimensions.
The founders of Studio KO, Karl Fournier and Olivier Marty, met during their studies at the Beaux-Arts in Paris. In 2000, they created their architecture and interior design agency, which now employs some fifty employees. With offices in Paris, Marrakesh and London they seduce the world with their clean architectural lines and their respect for the surrounding environment, focusing on local and natural materials. The name Studio KO echoes the timeless aesthetics and defends an architecture that blends tradition with modernity, using clean lines and raw materials such as stone, wood or hammered iron, rejecting the smooth; favouring texture.
