The Kimono Rugs by Marcel Zelmanovitch, the founder of Diurne, are a tribute to Japan. The patterns are an original interpretation of Japanese prints that depict Kabuki actors, one of the country’s most traditional, classic form of drama. Like the actors’ gestures, the lines and shapes are vibrant and dynamic, one can almost guess hidden calligraphy strokes, and visualize a scene that is constantly changing through light: the story is being told before one’s very eyes.

Project by Rebecca James Studio pictured by Richard Gooding.

Each rug is handcrafted by skilled artisans who master ancestral techniques such as hand knotting, weaving, and tufting. Due to its handmade nature, there may be slight variations in size and colour, and the patterns may adjust proportionally when the rug is scaled to different sizes. Colours are subject to sample approval and colours shown may vary with lighting and environment.
