CSLB Studio was founded in Paris by Caroline Sarkozy, formerly of Andrée Putman’s studio, and Laurent Bourgois. Together they design interiors and furniture rooted in a refined, classical ‘à la française’ elegance, forever in dialogue with the great names of twentieth-century French design.
The Palmier Square Side Table shares its palm-inspired silhouette with its round sibling, another collaboration between antique dealer Stanislas de Baudus and CSLB Studio, but its squared tabletop gives the marquetry a more architectural, angular reading. The central foot still develops beyond the top itself, its structure echoing the way a palm trunk supports a canopy of leaves.
Crafted in red lacquered wood with a marsh oak veneer marquetry top, the table sets lacquer against brass and wood, a mix Caroline Sarkozy and Laurent Bourgois describe as resolutely modern. The interlocking marquetry pattern catches light differently on a square surface than a round one, creating a shadow play that feels sharper, more graphic, while still carrying the collection’s signature warmth.
Trained at Parsons School of Design in New York, Caroline Sarkozy gained extensive experience working for the exacting Andrée Putman. A nomadic childhood between Asia, the Middle East and the USA, gives her a panoramic approach to influences and styles. Laurent Bourgois graduated from the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris and has over the years focused on Architecture and Interior Architecture projects in the private sector. Together, they have a refreshing take on classical style and absolute elegance achieved through exquisite “A la française” craftsmanship, a trademark of their interiors, which is appreciated by their private international clientele.
