Ecart
Beyond its historic re-editions, Ecart Design continues to create its own pieces guided by the same philosophy of ‘luxe pauvre’ — noble simplicity achieved through honest materials, careful proportion and the refusal of superfluous ornament, so that each object earns its place in a room through clarity of form rather than decoration.
The Kraft Table Lamp shrinks the gesture of its floor-standing sibling into an object for the desk or console, proof of Ecart’s belief that the same idea can hold at any scale. Its kraft paper shade — ordinary parcel paper elevated to a lighting material — reflects the house’s founding philosophy under Andrée Putman that restraint, not extravagance, is the truest form of luxury.
Built from lacquered steel and patinated brass, the lamp emits a soft, enveloping light through its paper shade, which warms and diffuses the glow rather than projecting it sharply. Placed on a desk or side table, it brings a quiet, workshop-honest character to a room, materials speaking plainly for themselves.

Founded in the late seventies, Ecart is the brainchild of the ineffable Andrée Putman, the brilliant aesthete who singlehandedly revived the neglected work of some great designers from the 1930s, including René Herbst, Jean-Michel Frank, Pierre Chareau and Eileen Gray. Following her instinct informed by her unique taste, Putman made the rather counterintuitive choice of re-editing some iconic designs from the past, despite the fact that, at the time, the business of furniture was all about newness.
