In 1959 he founded L’Atelier, the Sao Paulo workshop where he fused the geometric rigor of his European training with the sensuous curves and native materials of his adopted country; Etel now re-edits his archive in native Brazilian hardwoods.
Conceived by Zalszupin in the early 1960s as a companion to his celebrated 801 Armchair, this sofa distills the same minimalist elegance into a longer silhouette, its wooden legs finished with delicate brass details that catch the light. The dainty curves of its arms reveal the designer’s signature hand, while the linen seat softens the piece’s architectural precision with warmth and comfort.
ETEL’s design collection comprises one century of Brazilian furniture. With its pioneering re-edition work, ETEL brings back graceful designs of the modern Brazilian production, discovered only recently, and now considered as one of the most relevant worldwide for that period. Pieces characterised by skilful handiwork and the use of exquisite materials were created by architects and artists intent on unveiling the local culture, under the influence of the international avant-garde. This retrieval is based on a strict methodology, faithfulness to the originals, and intensive collaboration with the institutes and families that represent each creator’s oeuvre. The collection includes pieces by Oscar Niemeyer, Lina Bo Bardi, Jorge Zalszupin, Giuseppe Scapinelli, among others.
