Olivier Garcé and Clio Dimofski opened Garcé & Dimofski’s studio and gallery in a 19th-century Pombaline building in Lisbon. They bring a rigorous, architectural eye to furniture that never strays far from the earth it comes from — chestnut, walnut, pine and clay, shaped by hand with Portuguese craftsmen who have spent lifetimes mastering their materials.
The Ionic coffee table, another unique piece with Minjae Kim, sets a sapele wood top over a base painted in acrylic, with a ceramic plate inset at its centre where the two materials meet. Because each table is handmade, its shapes and shades vary slightly from any other in the series, making it as much a sculptural object as a surface to rest a drink on.
