Hamrei is the eponymous studio of a British-Swiss-Brazilian designer who has developed a signature language he calls ‘Brutiful’ — a fusion of brutalist rigor and sensuous beauty — where raw, sculptural forms meet a light-hearted, almost playful spirit.
The Bum Bum Armchair by Hamrei is not just a place to sink into. Its playful name promises the ultimate comfort, a feat of upholstery skill built on a solid wooden frame with traditional webbing and springs, proving the designer’s belief that ‘the perfect armchair doesn’t exist’ — so he built the closest thing to it.
Crafted with hand-sculpted layers of foam beneath faux blue rabbit fur, unbelievably soft to the touch, the chair rests on textured, painted mahogany feet that ground its plush silhouette. The fur shown here is discontinued, and the armchair is also available upholstered in a range of other fabrics upon request.
Born in The Potteries, Staffordshire, to an Anglo-Swiss father and Brazilian mother, Hamrei began to hone his eye for interiors and design between the British countryside and summers spent in the Mediterranean. Following his studies in Architecture he switched to interiors & furniture design through the formative guidance of Gisbert Pöppler in Berlin. Returning to his home country he continued to develop his sensibility for materials and colour during 3 years at Peter Mikic before going on to join French designer Pierre Yovanovitch. Whilst managing projects in the UK and US for the French firm, he continued to develop his own style until he set up his own interior & furniture design studio in the Summer of 2021.
