Every design begins as a drawing in the Paris studio, then travels to Vastrakala, the maison’s atelier in Chennai, where more than 270 artisans hand-embroider each piece using techniques passed down through generations, the same expertise once called upon to restore the gilded interiors of the Château de Versailles.
The New York Embroidered Decorative Panel by Lesage Intérieurs pays homage to Central Park, its hand-rolled cotton ropes of varying thickness building an undulating topography of flat and raised areas, much like the contour lines of a map. Entirely embroidered on hand-woven fabric, it turns cartography into a piece of art crafted by needle for the wall.
