The Mousse daybed by Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance is defined by anthropomorphous shapes that convey the feeling of a reassuring maternal embrace: an enveloping back supports a round, pregnant belly. The wooden base – like a temple door – creates a dichotomy that adds to the Japanese–inspired aesthetic of the piece.
Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance is a French designer who explores a wide range of disciplines and materials, which merge into a distinctive body of work. Born in the south of France in 1974, he followed in his father’s footsteps, by studying sculpture at the École nationale supérieure des arts appliqués et des métiers d’art, then earning his design diploma at the École nationale supérieure des Arts Décoratifs. In addition to his spectacular private and commercial projects –including an iconic chalet in the Alps – Noé creates exceptional pieces of furniture in very limited editions. After discovering the breathtaking landscapes of Portugal and the country’s rich craft traditions, he has launched Made In Situ, a design studio that pays tribute to Portuguese storied artistry.
