Embrun is the new lighting collection designed by Etienne Gounot & Eric Jähnke, co-founders of Ozone. It celebrates the 20th anniversary of their lighting company. Embrun is primarily composed of a vertical sconce and a large square chandelier. While keeping the renowned clean-lined and precise style of Ozone, Embrun aims at a new level of timeless elegance. Its French name (sea spray in English) evokes light, nature and time. White onyx was chosen by the two designers for its unique texture and light diffusion property. Besides, Onyx is said to bring along confidence and protection. To craft it carefully, Ozone collaborates with Les Ateliers Saint-Jacques, a famous French Artisan specialised in heritage renovation and exceptional interior design projects. They select, cut and finish this delicate stone like nobody else. The soft shape of the onyx lampshade, as if polished by time, is hung by a sharp structure in blackened brass. This alliance plays with balance and visual tension. The apparent airiness makes the complexity of the internal structure vanish. Eventually, Etienne and Eric have embedded the latest lighting technology of dynamic white which adjusts to the mood of the daylight. Embrun’s light is both generous and soothing. Waves pass and Embrun stays.
First and foremost, Ozone is the story of a friendship. Etienne Gounot and Eric Jahnke were just 25 when they first met in an office where they both worked as industrial engineers. Six years later, they changed gear and quit their mapped-out careers to unleash their creativity. This decisive moment led to the creation of Ozone in 2000. Wonderfully Combining magic, technology and architecture, they are inspired by light. They specialise in lighting design, catering for architects, decorators and corporations. The Ozone collection stems from the work of recent years.
Manufactured in Paris, Ozone light fixtures are assembled in the workshop of rue Notre-Dame de Nazareth in the Marais. They combine the Parisian tradition of craftsmanship with the latest LED light technologies. Their clean lines create a timeless geometry that is sometimes classic, modernist or minimal. The assemblage details, metal finishes and lighting performance of the Ozone collection are of the highest level.
