Studio Akademos takes its name from Akademos, the early-twentieth-century magazine of art and criticism founded by the aristocrat and poet Jacques d’Adelswärd-Fersen, and channels a fascination with Café Society — the glittering, decadent world of interwar Paris salons and 1970s glamour — into a collection handmade entirely by Italian craftsmen in Lombardy. Every piece is named after a real icon of that era, turning each object into a small biography rendered in walnut, lacquer, brass and cashmere.
The Ira Console is named for Princess Ira von Fürstenberg, the jet-set aristocrat whose beauty and eccentricity made her a fixture of Café Society’s most storied gatherings. Its American walnut structure wears a high-gloss lacquer with black-red edges, storage compartments lined in Loro Piana cashmere and opened by a brass-trimmed push mechanism, resting on satin stainless steel feet. Each console is handmade in Lombardy and finished with its own numbered brass plate, a small signature of authenticity on every piece.
Aurélien Raymond and Costanza Rossi met at famed Studio Casiraghi, whilst working on a variety of international, residential and commercial projects. Both architects with extensive curricula in some of the world’s best universities, they decided to partner and launch their design studio Akademos. Aurélien fell in love with interior design when freelancing for the likes of Pierre Yovanovitch and Emmanuelle Simon. Having grown up in Carrara – known for its spectacular marble quarries- and having spent part of her university years in Venice, Costanza has a keen eye for materials, details and beauty.
