Design Week Diaries: As New York buzzes with creativity during Design Week, Courtney Applebaum — star of Invisible Collection’s new Solo Show, La chambre du collectionneur — shares her curated list of must-visit spots in the city. From iconic eateries to hidden gems, here’s where she finds inspiration and comfort.

Restaurants
S&P Lunch: “It’s my counter for lunch,” says Courtney. Located at 174 Fifth Avenue, S&P Lunch revives the spirit of the classic New York luncheonette. Formerly Eisenberg’s Sandwich Shop, this spot offers nostalgic comfort food in a cozy setting.
The Grill: “One of my favorite rooms in New York.” Situated in the iconic Seagram Building, The Grill is a mid-century American chophouse known for its elegant interiors and classic menu. A place where design and dining converge seamlessly.
Elio’s: “A cozy neighborhood spot.” Since 1981, Elio’s on the Upper East Side has been serving classic Italian dishes in a warm, inviting atmosphere. A favorite among locals seeking authentic cuisine.
Sant Ambroeus (UES): “For the morning.” This Milanese café at 1000 Madison Avenue offers artisanal pastries and espresso, making it a perfect morning stop. Its chic ambiance reflects Italian sophistication.
Café Sabarsky: “For the morning too.” Nestled inside the Neue Galerie, Café Sabarsky brings Viennese coffeehouse culture to New York, in other words, traditional pastries amidst early 20th-century Austrian and German art.
ITO: “Beautiful omakase.” Located in Tribeca, ITO offers an intimate omakase experience led by Michelin-starred chefs. With only 16 seats, it provides a personalized dining journey.
Bars
Clemente Bar: “The cocktails are delicious!” Above Eleven Madison Park, Clemente Bar combines art and mixology. Designed in collaboration with artist Francesco Clemente, it offers plant-based cocktails in a setting adorned with original murals.
Jacques Bar at The Lowell Hotel: “Love to go and get a burger and martini.” This elegant bar on the Upper East Side is known for its classic cocktails and refined atmosphere. A perfect spot for a leisurely evening.
Health & Wellness
Central Park, the city’s green heart, is Courtney’s go-to, her closest connection to nature :“It’s really important, being from California, for me to be around nature, so I try and go every day.”
Sky Ting Yoga: “Best yoga, and they have saunas.” Founded in 2015, Sky Ting Yoga in Chinatown blends art and wellness. The studio offers diverse classes and amenities, promoting holistic well-being.
Museums & Galleries
Neue Galerie: “One of my favorite spaces to be in in the city.” Dedicated to early 20th-century German and Austrian art, this museum houses works by Klimt and Schiele, offering a serene cultural experience.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art: “Every time I go I discover something new, there’s endless inspiration.” With over two million works spanning centuries, The Met is a treasure trove for art enthusiasts, continually offering fresh perspectives.
The New York Earth Room: “Never ceases to amaze me!” Walter De Maria’s installation at 141 Wooster Street features 250 cubic yards of earth, creating a contemplative space that blurs the line between art and environment

De Vera: Located at 540 West 28th Street, De Vera offers a curated selection of antiques, jewelry, and objets d’art, reflecting a blend of history and artistry.
The Row: At 17 East 71st Street, The Row’s flagship store embodies minimalist luxury, showcasing refined fashion in an elegant townhouse setting. (Courtney designed the Row’s first flagship in Los Angeles)
Zitomer Pharmacy: This Upper East Side institution combines a traditional pharmacy with a boutique, offering everything from health essentials to luxury beauty products.
La Garçonne: Known for its curated selection of minimalist fashion, La Garçonne caters to those seeking understated elegance and timeless pieces.

Courtney Applebaum Design

Los Angeles-based Interior Designer Courtney Applebaum was initially drawn to architecture and interior design as she saw these worlds as arenas for self-expression and beauty. Established in 2011, her studio is dedicated to creating spaces that brim with purpose and individuality through a mix of design periods, furniture styles and unexpected materials. Curated eclecticism that naturally evokes a minimalist mood is the hallmark of each project.
