At Atelier Février, every rug begins as a drawing and ends as a hand-knotted object made by more than fifty pairs of hands. Founders Florian Pretet and Lisa Mukhia Pretet insist on wool sourced from the Himalayas and silk from China, on age-old Nepalese knotting techniques, and on leaving room for their clients to shape the final design, because, as they put it, a rug’s beauty lies as much in being unique as in being well made.

The Mushroom Rug joins Atelier Février’s rug library. Created with textile artist Emma Donnersberg, Mushroom takes its rounded, layered silhouette from the forest floor, its overlapping domes forming an organic, faintly surreal pattern that softens any room it enters. Hand-knotted in Nepal from 65% wild Nepalese nettle (locally called allo) and 35% silk, at 100 knots per square inch (155,000 knots per square metre), the nettle fibre giving the pile an unusually crisp, papery hand against the silk’s soft sheen. Florian Pretet’s drawings never leave the page unchanged: scaled up and hand-knotted by artisans in Nepal, the Mushroom Rug can be customised in size, shape and colourway, so no two commissions ever look quite the same.

Each rug is handcrafted by skilled artisans who master ancestral techniques such as hand knotting, weaving, and tufting. Due to its handmade nature, there may be slight variations in size and colour, and the patterns may adjust proportionally when the rug is scaled to different sizes. Colours are subject to sample approval and colours shown may vary with lighting and environment.
