The Cérès wall lamp plays on the circle and the plane. Its form pairs a disc of walnut with a crackled enamel sconce — two circular planes stacked and slightly offset. The walnut backplate reveals a clean, open grain and a central circular cutout, while the enamel below carries a fine crackle finish and a thin gilt rim where the two materials meet. Part of the Stellar collection that Johanna de Clisson designed in her Paris atelier, Cérès belongs to a series of three, each named for a celestial body and built from the same formal vocabulary: circle, disc, sphere. The meeting of raw walnut and crackled enamel, a signature of her practice at Hiromi, brings the hard and the soft, the industrial and the handmade, into dialogue without one effacing the other.
Playing with paradoxes, Johanna de Clisson simultaneously sculpts objects with brutalist and voluptuous shapes and volumes, as if two extremes were colliding. At the intersection of art and design, she embraces the beauty of constraint and asceticism as her personal guiding principles. Architecture is the primary source of reference for the artist, who cites Ryue Nishizawa, Tadao Ando, and Oscar Niemeyer as tutelary figures who inspire her desire to translate architectural forms into everyday life.
