The Mãe collection designed by Amande Haeghen was born in the hollow of femininity and our changing bodies. Recalling the womb that gave birth and still bears the scars of that child. This taut skin gives way to a round and soft belly in which it is good to snuggle. The light in the hollow of this thick volume leads us into a soft and muffled world that soothes us.
This volume that has carried life and light transforms and becomes a mother. Carrying on her skin the story of this new life. A multitude of imperfect and beautiful bodies. So many traces and memories that the skin traces on its surface, creating together the essence of life. Strong but also delicate in its form and soft to the touch. Each shape is hand-modeled, making each piece unique.
This collection incorporates glass scraps from the Wandlamp collection to create its own vibrant pigment palette. The Mãe of glass is adorned with intense and luminous colours, drawn from these glass remnants.
Coming from a family where creation rhymes with tradition, Amande Haeghen studied art history and then jumped in ceramic work with both feet. The countless sketches that filled her drawing books had to materialize: Her hands finally finding purpose working the clay with swift, precise gestures. Instinctively drawn to wall installations, she creates an array of styles mixing a variety of organic shapes that fit and embrace the walls like a second skin. Following the opening of her namesake Parisian studio in 2018, she opened an additional workshop in Lisbon in 2021.
