The Éros wall lamp plays on roundness and volume. Where Cérès is composed of stacked planes, Éros asserts itself through a spherical ceramic diffuser in glazed stoneware, set beneath an elongated walnut backplate with rounded ends and a circular aperture at its top. The crackled enamel catches the light and holds it, its fine crazing diffusing a soft glow across the textured globe. Like each piece in Johanna de Clisson’s Stellar collection, the lamp takes its name from a celestial body — and this kinship reads in its balance: the wood recedes, the sphere asserts itself. The meeting of raw walnut and crackled enamel, a signature of her work, brings the hard and the soft, the industrial and the handmade, into dialogue without one effacing the other.
Playing with paradoxes, Johanna de Clisson simultaneously sculpts objects with brutalist and voluptuous shapes and volumes, as if two extremes were colliding. At the intersection of art and design, she embraces the beauty of constraint and asceticism as her personal guiding principles. Architecture is the primary source of reference for the artist, who cites Ryue Nishizawa, Tadao Ando, and Oscar Niemeyer as tutelary figures who inspire her desire to translate architectural forms into everyday life.
