The Ida wall lamp is the most intimate of the three Stellar lamps. A slender vertical element in walnut, rounded at the top and pierced by a circular hole, rises from a half-spherical ceramic bowl, crackle-glazed in off-white. The bowl cradles the wooden piece as much as the piece anchors the bowl, so that the form reads as a single gesture even as the two materials remain distinct. Like each piece in Johanna de Clisson’s Stellar collection, Ida develops from a single formal constraint — the circle — which it applies most literally of all: the wood drawn as a vertical line, the ceramic resting as a hemisphere below. Conceived for intimate settings — a reading corner, a bedroom wall, a narrow corridor — Ida offers a softer, quieter presence where a spherical diffuser alone would be too much.
Playing with paradoxes, Johanna de Clisson simultaneously sculpts objects with brutalist and voluptuous shapes and volumes, as if two extremes were colliding. At the intersection of art and design, she embraces the beauty of constraint and asceticism as her personal guiding principles. Architecture is the primary source of reference for the artist, who cites Ryue Nishizawa, Tadao Ando, and Oscar Niemeyer as tutelary figures who inspire her desire to translate architectural forms into everyday life.
