Michel Boyer was a French architect who designed the original Brasilia lamp in 1974.
The Brasilia A Wall Lamp designed by Michel Boyer is not just a wall light. Boyer, the Paris-born architect who shaped the fixture in 1974, believed lighting should carry the same rigor as a building’s structure, and after he passed away in 2011, Ozone’s founders Etienne Gounot and Eric Jähnke, who had known and worked with him, chose to reissue the Brasilia collection as a tribute to their friend and to a design that had never lost its relevance.
Built from a white lacquered aluminum structure, the sconce carries a shade in white polycarbonate layered with a paper diffusion material, producing a soft, even wash of light against the wall rather than a single glaring point. The satin-white finish keeps the geometry crisp by day, letting the fixture read as sculpture even when unlit.
Wonderfully combining magic, technology and architecture, Gounot and Jähnke are inspired by light; they masterfully merge the Parisian tradition of craftsmanship with the latest LED light technologies. The clean lines of their designs conjure timeless geometries – cubes, tubes and circles – that encompass most styles, from classic to edgy. The assemblage details, metal finishes and lighting performance of each design are of the highest level.
