Part of Pietro Franceschini’s world, the Athena Ottoman translates the Florence- and New York-based architect’s belief in “neotenic design” — forms reduced to their most essential, almost primal geometry — into an object built through Italy’s most storied ateliers, sourcing marble from Carrara, metalwork from Florence and upholstery from Milan.
Athena stands on three legs cast in brass, its seat upholstered in Dedar’s Artemidor fabric in a soft agnello tone. Part of the Olympus Collection launched in 2020, it shares the family’s sculptural qualities eased by a touch of playfulness, the softness of the upholstery set in quiet contrast against the cool, gleaming cast-brass legs that ground it.
Pietro Franceschini is an architect and designer based in New York and Florence, with an international curriculum, attending schools in Italy, Portugal, and the United States. Following his B.Arch cum laude from Università degli Studi in Florence and his M.S.Arch with 1st class honour from Pratt Institute, he started collaborating with several renowned firms, including Leeser Architecture in Brooklyn, Claudio Nardi in Florence, Laisné Roussel in Paris, and Carlo Ratti Associati in New York.
