Since 1958, the Manufacture de Tapis de Bourgogne has worked from its ateliers in Moroges, at the heart of Burgundy, where hand-knotting and hand-tufting are practiced as living crafts rather than industrial processes. Recognised as an Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant, the manufacture has lent its rare know-how to designers from Andrée Putman to Philippe Starck, weaving each rug thread by thread with the patience of a discipline passed down through generations of artisans.
Veines — veins, in French — takes its name from the fine threads of silk that run through a wool ground like the natural markings of stone or wood, cut and looped by hand at the Manufacture de Tapis de Bourgogne into a subtly veined surface. True to Bismut & Bismut’s fascination with the quiet luxury of natural materials, the design can also be woven entirely in wool, linen and bamboo, each version keeping the same organic tracery that gives the rug its name and its restrained, jewel-like presence underfoot.
