Michele Chiossi is a Tuscan sculptor based in Forte dei Marmi, working across marble, bronze, resin and neon.

The Guggenheim Round Ashtray, designed by Tuscan sculptor Michele Chiossi for Mmairo, revisits one of the most classic living-room accessories, an object never quite forgotten despite decades of the legitimate fight against smoking. Chiossi, who trained at Florence’s Academy of Fine Arts before spending years in New York and Milan, treats the ashtray as a small architectural study, giving it a form that stylishly contains rather than simply holds.

Carved from Bianco Michelangelo marble with bespoke dimensions and finishes available on request, the ashtray’s concentric circular form echoes the way smoke itself spreads through the air, while its faceted, zigzag detailing, Chiossi’s recurring sculptural signature, catches light like a flash mirrored in the marble’s white surface. Time and smoke pass, but as Chiossi puts it, ashtrays like this one, shaped from stone this enduring, remain.
