Olivier Garcé and Clio Dimofski opened Garcé & Dimofski’s studio and gallery in a 19th-century Pombaline building in Lisbon. They bring a rigorous, architectural eye to furniture that never strays far from the earth it comes from — chestnut, walnut, pine and clay, shaped by hand with Portuguese craftsmen who have spent lifetimes mastering their materials.
Allegory is a unique folding screen combining stained chestnut with a plaster decor worked directly onto its panels, giving the piece a textured, almost fresco-like surface rather than a flat painted one. Because it is entirely handmade, its shapes and shades will vary slightly from any future piece the studio makes in this style, which is precisely the point of a one-off.
