Created for Sensitive Surfaces, presented by Invisible Collection during Maison & Objet, The Leaves Rives is the result of a first collaboration between French artist Marie de Lignerolles and Studio MTX, resident Maison d’Art of le 19M. Known for her luminous gouaches, de Lignerolles sees her work transposed here into embroidered architectural panels — The Leaves, Studio MTX’s signature creation — opening her practice to a new scale and spatial dimension.
Handcrafted by the artisans of Studio MTX, Rives transforms drawing into textile architecture. Suspended within Invisible Collection’s gallery, the work creates a poetic, immersive scenography that blurs the boundaries between art, craftsmanship, and design.
Founded in the late 1930s, Montex Haute Couture embroidery workshop created Studio MTX in 2013 to open up a new field of expression in embroidery: interior design. By moving embroidery from clothing into space, a new savoir-faire emerges, drawing on the vocabulary of traditional embroidery to develop its own language. The thread becomes a cable, riveting borders on couture, the sequin evolves into a thermolacquered aluminium module. The Studio offers decorators and interior designers hitherto unseen materials born from the unique combination of techniques from different fields of the applied arts including embroidery, weaving, tapestry and leatherwork.
