Jennifer Shorto is a French-American textile and wallcovering designer whose itinerant childhood across Brazil, Mexico, Paris and Brussels shaped a personal archive of antique textiles, from seventeenth-century French brocades to West African strip-woven cloth.
The Etoiles Ocre Placemat carries Jennifer Shorto’s star-scattered Etoiles motif in a warm ochre palette, a pattern born from her personal archive of antique textiles gathered across Brazil, Mexico and Paris — the places that shaped her eye long before she founded her studio in 2013.
Woven in 100% natural linen, the placemat has the substantial, slightly nubby hand typical of Shorto’s fabrics, produced in the United Kingdom and printed abroad in a process she treats as an extension of heritage craft. The ochre stars scatter across the linen like embers, bringing warmth to a table setting without ever feeling literal or heavy-handed.
Jennifer Shorto began her career as a collector and connoisseur, buying and selling antique textiles and collaborating with artisans to reproduce her favorite pieces. Studying History of Art at L’Ecole du Louvre ignited her passion for artisanship, and set the foundation of her investigative skills to source exceptional materials and work with the very best.
