Mmairo is a marble atelier based in Carrara, its name drawn from the ancient Greek marmairo, meaning ‘to shine.’

Whether empty or filled with flowers, vases have always told a tale of magic, and the Inside Out Vase, designed by Karen Chekerdjian for Mmairo, the Carrara atelier whose name comes from the ancient Greek marmairo, meaning to shine, plays directly with that duality. Chekerdjian, the Lebanese-Armenian designer known for sharp-edged, near-brutalist forms softened by an elegant hand, turns the vessel’s usual logic outward, letting its structure become as expressive as what it might hold.

Carved from Fior di Pesco Carnico marble, prized for its dramatic grey-blue veining that recalls flowing water frozen mid-motion, the vase reads as a container and a gift alike, its surface in perfect harmony with the shapes it frames. Bespoke dimensions and finishes are available on request, with the piece produced entirely within Mmairo’s own workshops, continuing a collaboration between Chekerdjian and the atelier that has also placed their work in the collection of Paris’s Musée des Arts Décoratifs.
