Studio JM Gady’s reading of the cheese platter starts with the material itself: a recycled ceramic developed by Noma Editions, which pairs specialist recyclers with French craftsmen to give discarded matter a second, refined life. The resulting surface carries the faint irregularities and mineral depth that come from working with reclaimed rather than virgin clay — no two pieces behave quite the same way under the glaze, which is part of the appeal to a trained eye. Gady, whose architectural training shows in the platter’s clean, low profile and generous circular plane, treats the object as sculpture first, service piece second. Set at the centre of a table, it holds its own before anything is placed on it — a quiet counterpoint to more ornate tableware, suited to interiors where restraint reads as confidence.
