Ochre has long been a favourite of rural furniture painters, an earth pigment that softens gracefully with wax and handling. Here it fills the field in a warm, slightly muted tone, held within a cream border that loosens into loops and frayed ends at intervals, as though a ribbon had been tied around the edge and left to drift. Woven by hand in Bhadohi, the long-established centre of Indian carpet making, the pile is sheared to an even height so each motif keeps a crisp outline against the ground. Giancarlo Valle confines the ornament to the perimeter and the stepped corners, giving the rug a framed, almost architectural presence on the floor. In a north-facing room the yellow brings warmth without weight, and it sits naturally alongside terracotta, smoked oak and dark-stained timber.

Each rug is handcrafted by skilled artisans who master ancestral techniques such as hand knotting, weaving, and tufting. Due to its handmade nature, there may be slight variations in size and colour, and the patterns may adjust proportionally when the rug is scaled to different sizes. Colours are subject to sample approval and colours shown may vary with lighting and environment.
