Founded by Goya Gallagher and named for Nut, the Egyptian goddess who personifies the sky, Anut Cairo builds its table linens and pottery around the country’s living artisan communities rather than a purely decorative idea of Egyptian style. Its embroidered linens are hand-worked in Cairo, its glazed earthenware hand-painted by potters in the Fayoum village of Tunis, and its woven bedspreads made by textile artisans in Akhmim and Sohag along the Nile. The house’s embroidery training school gives local women a skill they can practice from home, turning each hand-stitched piece into part of a wider, ongoing project.

Another contemporary interpretation of floral pattern within the Fayoum pottery collection, the Clover Hexagon Dessert Plate is hand-painted glazed earthenware designed to mix easily with other patterns for a livelier table. Its hexagonal silhouette sets it apart from the rounder plates elsewhere in the range.
