Goya Gallagher founded Anut Cairo around a simple premise: that Egypt’s textile and ceramic traditions, still very much alive in villages along the Nile, deserved a platform beyond souvenir shops. Named after Nut, the sky goddess of ancient Egyptian mythology, the house sources hand-painted pottery from the Fayoum oasis, hand-embroidered linens from its own Cairo training centre, and woven textiles from the historic weaving towns of Akhmim and Sohag. Its embroidery school and artist residency programme keep the emphasis on people and place as much as on the finished object.
Made in the Fayoum village of Tunis, the Green Leaves Blue Dessert Plate demonstrates the boldness of contemporary Egyptian craftsmanship, its hand-painted glazed earthenware pairing a bright blue ground with a leaf motif in vivid green. Each plate is entirely unique, the potter’s brushstroke visible in every leaf.
Founded by Goya Gallagher, ANUT draws its name from Nut, the ancient Egyptian goddess of the skies. This new lifestyle brand celebrates Egyptian heritage and craftsmanship, bringing the light, warmth, and magic of this unique country into homes around the world. At its core, ANUT is about people—fostering communities and engaging with local craftspeople, designers, and creatives. From their busy embroidery school, which enables women to learn a skill and work from home, to an Artist Residency programme that connects artists to a flourishing community of artisans working with ANUT, beautiful millennial crafts remain relevant in contemporary décor.
