Founded by Goya Gallagher and named for Nut, the Egyptian goddess who personifies the sky, Anut Cairo builds its table linens and pottery around the country’s living artisan communities rather than a purely decorative idea of Egyptian style. Its embroidered linens are hand-worked in Cairo, its glazed earthenware hand-painted by potters in the Fayoum village of Tunis, and its woven bedspreads made by textile artisans in Akhmim and Sohag along the Nile. The house’s embroidery training school gives local women a skill they can practice from home, turning each hand-stitched piece into part of a wider, ongoing project.

A contemporary take on floral pattern within Anut Cairo’s Fayoum pottery collection, the Dotty Daisy Dessert Plate mixes polka dots and a daisy motif in hand-painted glazed earthenware, its artisanal irregularities part of the charm rather than a flaw. Designed to be mixed with other patterns, it invites a livelier, layered table setting.
