Her work is defined by a sharp-edged, near-Brutalist geometry, primal forms distilled to their essentials, where matter itself, whether marble, metal or wood, is left to speak with almost no ornament.
The Inside Out Fior di Pesco Carnico Bowl by Karen Chekerdjian pairs her essential shapes and classical lines with one of the rarer stones in the Inside Out family. Trained in Milan under Massimo Morozzi and seasoned at EDRA before founding her own studio in Beirut, Chekerdjian designed a fruit basket that never goes unnoticed, its confident silhouette transforming a table into a convivial place with almost no ornament at all.
Cut from Fior di Pesco Carnico, a pale grey-blue marble quarried in the Carnic Alps and prized for its fine, feathery white veining, the bowl is produced with Mmairo, the Carrara atelier that has controlled extraction through manufacture in-house since 2016. As an interchangeable top for the Inside Out Table, its subtle, cloud-like pattern gives the piece a softness that sets it apart from the collection’s boldest marbles.
Karen Chekerdjian’s creations are nourished by craftsmanship, tradition and the cultural skills of Lebanon, her home country. Today her workshop produces collections of furniture, objects, and jewellery all under the “Series by Karen Chekerdjian” brand – limited edition objects as well as Spatial Design. Her unique collaboration with regional craftsmen, has allowed her to lay the foundations for Lebanese design. Her work transforms and reinterprets the origins of her country, bringing forth a strong contemporary character. The dynamic dialogue between design and craftsmanship has become her signature. Her strong style, without embellishment, produces pieces that are sharp-edged, masculine, almost Brutalist, with a highly elegant and enigmatic presence.
