Since 1958, the Manufacture de Tapis de Bourgogne has worked from its ateliers in Moroges, at the heart of Burgundy, where hand-knotting and hand-tufting are practiced as living crafts rather than industrial processes. Recognised as an Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant, the manufacture has lent its rare know-how to designers from Andrée Putman to Philippe Starck, weaving each rug thread by thread with the patience of a discipline passed down through generations of artisans.
In its terracotta colourway, Elsa Barbillon’s Caldeira Rug shifts the volcanic memory of its design toward warmer, ochre-red earth tones, as if the collapsed crater it depicts had cooled into rust rather than filled with water. Hand-knotted and hand-tufted in wool and silk by the Manufacture de Tapis de Bourgogne, the concentric pattern belongs to the wider Dreams collection, where cartography, geology and Aboriginal storytelling traditions converge in the language of pile and pattern.
