Jérôme Bugara draws his vocabulary of design from Paris’s architectural richness, a fascination that has shaped his agency’s furniture ever since. He is known above all for his devotion to French savoir-faire: he seeks out artisans who still carve, cane and hand-finish exactly as their predecessors did, treating every join, seam and curve as a chance to showcase that inherited skill rather than hide it.
The Baïne Armchair distils the collection’s tidal-pool poetry into a single seat, upholstered in navy Vitus velvet from Fischbacher 1819 that pools like deep water across its rounded frame. Bugara imagined the whole Baïne story as an alliance between serenity and hidden movement, and the armchair’s deep, cocooning proportions let one person disappear into that alliance the way a swimmer might slip beneath a calm surface. Its pure, uncluttered lines are left deliberately quiet, so the richness of the velvet and the depth of the seat do all the talking.
