Laura Gonzalez is a French architect and interior designer who founded her eponymous Paris studio.
Drawing from the sensuous curves of the nineteen-sixties, the Soho New York Armchair by Laura Gonzalez is an all-round exercise in seduction, built from luxurious materials and designed to blur the line between retro glamour and contemporary ease. The chair’s undulating backrest wraps around the sitter like a soft embrace, a shape Gonzalez uses to bring warmth and movement to what could otherwise be a rigid, architectural form.
This piece is upholstered in a now-discontinued Fadini Borghi fabric from Pierre Frey in the rigato mantova colorway, its fine striping tracing the chair’s curved surfaces, and rests on a mirror-polished chrome metal base that catches and multiplies the surrounding light. The result is a chair that feels equally at home in a Left Bank apartment or a Manhattan loft, a true collector’s piece given that its original fabric can no longer be reordered.
Laura Gonzalez founded her Parisian agency at 24, while still a student at the Ecole nationale supérieure d’architecture Paris-Malaquais. Since then, she’s been making a name for herself in the world of interior design delivering fantastic projects. Putting her motto into practice, “Live each project as a unique experience”, Laura was commissioned the 2021 Women Pavilion in Dubai, and has created some awe-inspiring interiors for luxury brands including Louboutin and Cartier. For the famed jeweler, she redesigned the historic 5th Avenue store in New York, and the “residence”, the private salon at the Paris Flagship in rue de la Paix, elevating the retail experience with her unmistakable style.
