Les MétamorFoses is a French nonprofit uniting artistic upcycling and craftsmanship, transforming imperfect materials — offcuts and leftovers from France’s most prestigious luxury workshops — into signed, one-of-a-kind works.

Tea House, born from the collaboration between Japanese fashion designer Shinsuke Kawahara and Les MétamorFoses, reimagines the traditional tea ceremony pavilion as a demountable, mobile structure — a unique signed piece that embodies the nonprofit’s mission of turning leftover materials from French luxury workshops into genuine works of design.

Its frame in medium wood supports an intricate marquetry of precious species — sycamore, Laos ebony, walnut, pear, oak and tamo — while one of its four walls is entirely rendered in stained glass, filtering colored light onto the two Japanese tatami mats laid inside. The result is a small architecture for ritual and reflection, as much art object as functioning space.
