The son of a sculptor, Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance grew up surrounded by tools and raw material long before he ever sat at a drafting table. Founder of the Neonata studio, he has spent two decades translating the language of nature — its curves, erosions and quiet balances — into furniture for Hermès, Baccarat and Saint-Louis. From his studio in Lisbon, he now works chiefly in stone and bronze, favouring small limited editions that honour the individuality of each block and each cast.
The first in its series, Odyssey 1 is limited to 12 pieces and hand-tufted in 75% wool and 25% silk, its composition marking the starting point of Duchaufour-Lawrance’s ink-on-paper explorations later expanded across the Odyssey numbering. Shown first in brown and also available in a rectangular shape or fully custom-made, it favours broader, calmer strands of colour than the later iterations in the series. As with every rug in the collection, its handmade construction means each example is inherently unique.
Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance is a French designer who explores a wide range of disciplines and materials, which merge into a distinctive body of work. Born in the south of France in 1974, he followed in his father’s footsteps, by studying sculpture at the École nationale supérieure des arts appliqués et des métiers d’art, then earning his design diploma at the École nationale supérieure des Arts Décoratifs. In addition to his spectacular private and commercial projects –including an iconic chalet in the Alps – Noé creates exceptional pieces of furniture in very limited editions. After discovering the breathtaking landscapes of Portugal and the country’s rich craft traditions, he has launched Made In Situ, a design studio that pays tribute to Portuguese storied artistry.
