Each placemat and napkin still passes through the hands of embroiderers trained in techniques more commonly reserved for fashion’s finest gowns, worked on fine Belgian linen rather than silk, so that a set for the table carries something of the discipline of haute couture into everyday life.

The Ikat Green Placemat & Napkin set reinterprets the resist-dye ikat pattern in hand embroidery on 100% Belgian linen, the Vis-À-Vis Paris ateliers building its blurred, woven-looking motif in graduated green shades stitch by stitch rather than through dyeing. It is a quiet demonstration of the maison’s couture training: a technique borrowed from one craft tradition, faithfully rendered in the language of another.
