Grand Reef Floor Lamp

Based in the Apuan Alps, Mmairo controls every step of production in-house, from quarry extraction to finished object, collaborating with international designers, architects and artists on furniture and objects.

“The sculptor doesn’t try to translate his thought into marble: he thinks in marble, directly, as if everything were already marble,” wrote André Gide, and Jacopo Simonetti pushes that idea to its fullest scale in the Grand Reef Floor Lamp for Mmairo, the Carrara atelier whose very name, drawn from the ancient Greek marmairo, means to shine. Standing at full height, the piece transforms the Reef family’s intimate rock-formation language into a genuinely architectural presence within a room.

Worked from the same richly stratified natural marble as its tabletop counterparts, the floor lamp’s larger scale allows Simonetti’s carving to reveal deeper veining and more pronounced texture, so that the piece reads almost as a fragment of coastline brought indoors. Bespoke dimensions and finishes are available on request, and, like every Mmairo piece, the lamp is produced entirely in-house in the Apuan Alps, from the initial block to the finished, glowing form.
