Her work is defined by a sharp-edged, near-Brutalist geometry, primal forms distilled to their essentials, where matter itself, whether marble, metal or wood, is left to speak with almost no ornament.
The Inside Out Nero Marquina Candle Holder by Karen Chekerdjian treats a flame the way she treats every material: with restraint and total conviction. Since founding her Beirut studio after years at EDRA and training in Milan under Massimo Morozzi, Chekerdjian has built a language of sharp, near-Brutalist geometry, and here that language becomes a bearer of light, simple in shape yet dense enough to hold the eternal, magical glow a candle casts across a room.
Cut from Nero Marquina, the deep black marble threaded with fine white veining, the piece is produced with Mmairo, the Carrara atelier that has overseen extraction and finishing in-house since 2016. Designed as an interchangeable top for the Inside Out Table, it can crown the base on its own or alongside its counterparts, proving that even the smallest object in stone can anchor an entire ritual of light.
MMairo designs and creates high quality marble objects in Carrara, the world’s marble capital, where they were established in 2016. The products are made using the highest quality marbles, hand finished by skilled local artisans and with a high market positioning.
