Mmairo is a marble atelier based in Carrara, its name drawn from the ancient Greek marmairo, meaning ‘to shine.’

The Bruchi Table Lamp, designed by Niko Koronis for Mmairo, questions marble’s oldest cultural role. Mmairo, the marble atelier founded in Carrara in 2016 and named after the ancient Greek word marmairo, meaning ‘to shine,’ typically treats marble as a metamorphic rock embodying the platonic idea of sculpture, the beginning and the end of a form. Koronis instead investigates the material’s limitations and the manufacturing process itself, letting the lamp’s structure expose rather than conceal how the stone was cut and shaped.

Available in Verde Guatemala, a deep green stone shot through with veining, and Rosso Levanto, a dense burgundy marble, the lamp can be ordered in bespoke dimensions and finishes. Produced entirely in-house by Mmairo’s artisans in the Apuan Alps, from quarry to finished object, the Bruchi Lamp turns the quiet glow of its light source into a demonstration of how much technical daring can be hidden inside a single, seemingly simple block of stone.
