Joseph Dirand is a Paris architect and designer renowned for radical interiors with taut lines and black-and-white visual effects.
The Gélule Wall Lamp in pale gold designed by Joseph Dirand is not just a sconce. Is there anything more unassuming than the shape of an elongated cylinder resembling a capsule? And yet the Paris minimalist, renowned for the taut lines and graphic black-and-white restraint of interiors like restaurant Monsieur Bleu and the Surf Club in Miami, has turned this simplicity into something almost totemic for Ozone.
Crafted with a structure in brass and aluminium, finished here in pale gold, the capsule glows through its own metal shell rather than through glass, adorning the wall as though it were a timeless piece of art. The fixture belongs to the trio of Phénix, Gélule and Diamant that Dirand designed for Ozone in 2016, and can also be found in alabaster or nickel.
Dirand sees the space with the eye of a scenographer where volumes and details come together in total harmony. Light plays an important role as it sculpts the space and transforms the surfaces; materials and colour palettes define the atmosphere. Each project is imbued with timeless elegance and a subtle “art de vivre”: an utmost livability without ever sacrificing absolute chic. For each project, Dirand spends a long time researching context and history, finding the right textures, compositions, colours, and atmosphere.
