La Maison du Collectionneur

Stories Exhibitions La Maison du Collectionneur

A new exhibition in New York featuring exclusive designs by Courtney Applebaum and a tribute to the city by Lesage Intérieurs. Discover our display of distinctive creations to own - for love, not for lack.

We are delighted to present La Maison du Collectionneur, an exhibition that encapsulates the distinctive French aesthetic that has become our signature style. Opening on May 6th, the exhibition brings together interior designer Courtney Applebaum for her debut New York show and a bedroom design in homage to the city that never sleeps by Lesage Intérieurs, a specialty creator from le 19M, Chanel’s hub for savoir-faire. La Maison du Collectionneur will see each floor of our Upper East Side gallery transformed into an inspiring expression of beauty and craftsmanship where even the simplest object tells a story. Established in 2011, Courtney Applebaum’s eponymous design studio approaches architecture and interior design as unique arenas for self-expression and beauty. The studio is dedicated to creating spaces that brim with purpose and individuality through a mix of design periods, furniture styles and unexpected materials – a curated eclecticism that naturally evokes a minimalist mood.

With her keen eye for materiality, each piece curated for La Maison du Collectionneur focuses on a different element – seeded glass, terracotta, and lacquer; an exploration of how each can bring qualities of textural interest to a muted interior. Applebaum’s signature seeded cast glass tables instill the showcase with a simultaneous weight and lightness through the material. Her iconic design synthesizes a rustic simplicity intrinsic to the seeded glass with a refined, classical design in the collection’s silhouettes. Alongside the Seeded Glass coffee and side tables are Applebaum’s Terracotta lighting series, where the white, tasseled pendant, table lamp and sconce will be elegantly styled alongside her Curved Sofa in a luxurious Cream Hair on Hide upholstery, presenting a surprising textural element in a palette of muted tones. Maintaining a soft color palette with high design details, the scenography will also showcase Applebaum’s Lacquer Tiered Nightstands, both adorned with hanging drawer pulls in silk fabric. To complete the look, a selection of accessories, including a modernist Silver Ashtray and the Hollywood-glamour infused Blast Mirror, designed for the “Jewels for the Home” capsule, inspired by Repossi’s iconic jewelry pieces.

ON the first floor of Invisble Collection’s townhouse, visitors can discover a custom-designed bedroom filled with exquisite elements by the masters of savoir-faire at Lesage Intérieurs, artfully assembled by design duo Biehler-Graveleine. As a nod to the city that never sleeps, the serene escape is infused with the magic of delicate embroidery, everything touched by sophisticated custom fabric, beading and feather-work. The centerpiece of the bedroom is an intricately detailed headboard, debuted at La Chambre 100, an exhibition staged by design duo Biehler-Graveleine at the Évêché de Toulon that celebrated 100 years of craftsmanship at the Maison d’Art Lesage. Depicting rolling clouds achieved through rigorous needlework, the piece brings the reveries of sleep to the waking world. Setting the scene for a luxurious evening escape, the bedroom ensemble features additional designs, including a Petit Honoré lamp by Stephen Antonson, the Altana Table by Mmairo, a 2020.01 floor lamp by Haos, the Seurat Rug designed by Garcé & Dimofski for the Jacques Doucet collection, as well as a pair of vintage 1930s Modernist armchairs. These exquisite pieces are in dialogue with additional details by Lesage Intérieurs, including an embroidered mirror and a never-before-seen panel from the Maison d’Art’s series of embroidered maps. The decorative piece will feature embroidered bas-reliefs with threads, knotted cords, and cotton strings depicting an abstracted map of Central Park in honor of the showcase.

La Maison du Collectionneur would not be complete without Invisible Collection’s continued collaborators at L’Œil de KO and their vision to celebrate and share exceptional craftsmanship. Through meticulous curation, the studio breathes new life into handcrafted objects steeped in history, honouring their fragility, beauty, and essence. L’Œil de KO’s curation will add a soulful touch of layered stories in every corner of the space. Through La Maison du Collectionneur, we aim to revive a tradition started a century ago when the most celebrated decorators and ensembliers of their time were invited to present their work at the seminal Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes in Paris. Even then, the goal was not only to showcase the exceptional savoir-faire of French artisans but also to illustrate what the ideal home of a collector could look like. One hundred years later, we’re picking up where masters, such as Ruhlmann and Frank left off, showing what the ideal home of a collector could look like today.
La Maison du Collectionneur will be on view at Invisible Collection’s New York gallery at 24 E 64th Street, New York, NY from May 6th until late Summer.
