The Clef Rugs by Marcel Zelmanovitch, the founder of Diurne, are inspired by geometric shapes. Based on the principle of simple composition, the patterns are defined by squares and rectangles displayed in vertical symmetry in the likes of very old buildings’ facades. The shapes’ regular sequence is interrupted by different-shaped elements which bind them together. In French architecture they are called “clés”, keys.
Each rug is handcrafted by skilled artisans who master ancestral techniques such as hand knotting, weaving, and tufting. Due to its handmade nature, there may be slight variations in size and colour, and the patterns may adjust proportionally when the rug is scaled to different sizes. Colours are subject to sample approval and colours shown may vary with lighting and environment.
