Founded in Porto by Artur Miranda and Jacques Bec, Oitoemponto — Portuguese for ‘eight o’clock sharp’ — is a studio obsessed with precision and theatre, pushing lacquer, marquetry, rare woods and marble to technical extremes that turn cabinetmaking into something closer to set design.
The Puzzle console by Oitoemponto extends the studio’s 1980s television-set homage into a storage piece, its structure in blue lacquer punctuated by rosewood doors and an ipé wood puzzle motif set into the front. Limited to 8 pieces — Oitoemponto’s lucky number — it demanded craftsmen push their marquetry skills to a genuine technical feat.
Inside, glass and lacquer shelving continues the material conversation, while transparent acrylic feet let the whole cabinet appear to float. It is a piece built on contrast: dense tropical wood against saturated colour, solid structure against a base that all but disappears.
Oitoemponto, founded by Artur Miranda and Jacques Bec in 1995, mixes vintages pieces and asserted colors to give a cosmopolitan style to their creations. Their furnitures will be tomorrow’s classics with their simple and elegant design such as the Luccio side table or the Artur armchair.
